This LED downlight is insulation coverable, but before you start covering it with insulation, there’s a condition that you must follow. You can only put insulation over your LED downlights if you use a GU10 LED bulb that does not exceed a maximum of 7w of power. While it’s okay to use a higher wattage bulb with this LED downlight (given that it’s still within the downlight’s capacity), you won’t be able to put insulation if it’s higher than 7w.

Ideal for 90 Minute Ceilings & Solid Joists and I-Joists

This LED downlight is fire-rated to 90 minutes of protection. It means the hole you cut to install your lights is completely resealed, and your ceiling is reinforced to prolong the time when the fire will spread (in this case, by 90 minutes). Only a fire-rated downlight like this one can completely reseal the holes you trim because it has a built-in intumescent pad that activates when exposed to a specific temperature. When activated, the pad can block even the smallest cracks where the fire can slip through.
