Why hexagons instead of strips or battens

  • Even light from many angles

Dozens of tubes light the space from different angles, which softens the hard shadows a single batten casts across a bonnet or a bench.

  • Accurate colour at 6500K

Cool white kits give daylight white with a CRI above 80, so paint defects and swirl marks are easier to see.

  • Extend your layout

Our cool white hexagon LED light kits (1 to 50 hexagons) share the same 410mm tubes and connectors, so you can add hexagons later. Larger layouts may need an extra power cable.

  • Ceiling, wall or chains

Fix with screws through the connectors, metal clips or cable ties, or hang the layout on suspension chains. Hardwiring must be done by a qualified electrician.

Can the tubes be cut to size?

No. Cool white tubes are a fixed 410mm, and bordered kits add fixed 1,185mm border tubes. Do not cut or modify them. Choose a kit with the number of hexagons you need, or design your own layout in the hexagon kit builder.

Extending a layout

The cool white hexagon LED light kits shown above share the same tubes and connectors, so a layout can be extended with extra hexagons. Each power cable carries up to 440W, so add another power cable when a layout grows past that. Connect power cables at a Y, T or power connector.

A short guide to hexagon LED lighting

What are hexagon LED lights?

Hexagon LED lights are modular lighting systems made from LED tubes joined into connected hexagonal frames. Also called hexagon lights or hexagon lighting, they light a space from many angles at once, which softens the shadows a single fitting casts. The honeycomb layout spreads light across floors, vehicles, worktops and walls, so it suits larger working spaces better than a single run of LED strip lights.

Kits run from a single hexagon to 50. There are two ranges: cool white (6500K) with a white or black frame, for task lighting, and RGB colour-changing with a white frame, for feature and ambient lighting. Kits can be fixed to a ceiling or a wall, or hung below the ceiling on suspension chains, and run on AC100-240V mains with a UK plug.

Cool white hexagon LED kits (6500K)

The cool white range gives crisp 6500K daylight white, suited to detailing, inspection and bench work. With a CRI above 80, paint finishes and materials look true to life, which matters when you are checking a finish under artificial light.

Kits range from a single hexagon producing 5,040 lumens at 42W to a 50 hexagon layout producing 155,400 lumens at 1,295W. Each 410mm tube runs at 7W and gives 840 lumens. Every kit includes the tubes, connectors, a power cable with a UK plug, and screws, metal clips and cable ties for fixing. The 14 hexagon kit with border adds a continuous outer frame made from 1,185mm border tubes.

All cool white kits come with a 5-year warranty and a white or black frame. They are not dimmable. They are rated IP20, so they are for dry indoor spaces only.

RGB colour-changing hexagon LED kits

RGB kits give colour-changing light. They are controlled from a Bluetooth app on iOS and Android, where you can also set the brightness, and each kit includes a 2.4GHz remote.

RGB kits come in 3, 5 and 7 hexagon layouts, with a white frame only. The 3 hexagon kit uses 17 tubes, the 5 hexagon kit 25 and the 7 hexagon kit 31. They run on AC100-240V, are rated IP20 for dry indoor use and carry a 3-year warranty.

Where to use hexagon LED lights

Hexagon LED lights suit spaces that need strong, even overhead light and a structured look. In detailing bays and car workshops, the honeycomb pattern reduces shadowing around vehicles, so body panels stay visible from every side. Mechanical garages and MOT bays benefit from the high light output across the working area.

In gyms and fitness studios, hexagon lights combine functional brightness with a geometric feature. Showrooms and dealerships use them to present vehicles and products consistently, and in barber shops and salons RGB kits add colour and atmosphere alongside everyday lighting.

Kits can be fixed to a ceiling or a wall, or hung below the ceiling on suspension chains. Layouts scale from a single hexagon over a bench or on a feature wall to 50 hexagons across a commercial unit.

How to choose the right kit size

Start with the area you want to light, then compare it with each kit's layout size, shown on every product card and in Compare kit sizes. The sizes are for the layout pictured and include the border on bordered kits.

For a single garage, 3 to 8 hexagons is a useful starting range, with five a common choice. Compare the layout dimensions with your space; the best choice also depends on ceiling height and how you use the garage. The 5 hexagon kit is 2.21 by 1.55 metres and gives 20,160 lumens. The 8 hexagon kit is 2.28 by 2.22 metres and gives 29,760 lumens.

Detailing bays, full-length garages and salons suit 11 to 17 hexagon kits. The 14 hexagon kit is 3.82 metres long, so it runs the length of a car, and the 14 hexagon kit with border adds a continuous outer frame at 4.86 by 2.45 metres. For a double garage, one kit per bay usually lights both cars more evenly than one large kit in the middle.

Showrooms, warehouses and commercial units use 22 to 50 hexagon kits, from 69,720 up to 155,400 lumens. The 50 hexagon kit is 7.47 by 3.81 metres. Measure the ceiling or wall before ordering, and remember that kits can be fitted side by side for wider coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are hexagon LED lights and how do they work?

Hexagon LED lights are modular lighting systems made from LED tubes joined into connected hexagonal frames. The honeycomb layout lights a space from many angles at once, which spreads light evenly across floors, vehicles, worktops and walls and softens the shadows a single fitting casts. Kits can be fixed to a ceiling or a wall.

What sizes of hexagon LED light kits are available?

Kits run from a single hexagon to 50. The single hexagon kit gives 5,040 lumens at 42W and the 50 hexagon kit gives 155,400 lumens at 1,295W. Cool white kits use 410mm tubes rated at 7W and 840 lumens each. Every product card shows the kit's layout size in metres.

Can I design my own hexagon layout?

Yes. Use our hexagon kit builder to choose your hexagons, arrange your layout and check its overall dimensions. The builder calculates the parts needed for your design. Custom layouts are currently available in cool white with white or black frames. For RGB colour-changing lighting, choose one of our ready-made RGB kits.

What colour options are available for hexagon lights?

There are two ranges. Cool white (6500K) kits give daylight white light and come with a white or black frame; they suit task lighting. RGB kits give colour-changing light and come with a white frame only; they suit feature and ambient lighting.

Can hexagon lights be fitted to a wall or hung on chains?

Yes. Kits can be fixed to a ceiling or a wall using screws through the connector holes, metal clips or cable ties, or hung below the ceiling on suspension chains. Suspension chains are offered as an option in our hexagon kit builder. Test the layout on the floor before you fix it, and lift larger layouts with help.

Are hexagon LED lights dimmable?

No. Cool white kits are not dimmable. With RGB kits you can change the colour and set the brightness in the app.

Where are hexagon LED lights typically used?

Hexagon LED lights suit spaces that need strong, even overhead light and a structured look: garages, detailing bays, workshops, gyms, showrooms, salons and retail spaces. The even spread of light makes them useful for inspection, detailing and everyday work where you need to see clearly.

Are hexagon LED lights suitable for UK electrical systems?

Yes. All kits run on AC100-240V and come with a power cable and UK plug for a standard socket. If you would rather hardwire a kit, the installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician in line with the current IET Wiring Regulations. Each power cable carries up to 440W, so larger kits include more than one.

What is included in a hexagon LED light kit?

Cool white kits include the LED tubes, connectors, one or more power cables with UK plugs, and screws, metal clips, cable ties and wire nuts for fixing and connecting. The quantities for each size are listed on the product page. RGB kits include a 2.4GHz remote and are controlled from a Bluetooth app on iOS and Android; the 3, 5 and 7 hexagon RGB kits use 17, 25 and 31 tubes.

Why choose hexagon lights over LED strips or linear lighting?

A hexagon layout lights a space from many tubes at different angles, so it covers a wide area more evenly than a single strip or batten and reduces hard shadows. It also works as a ceiling or wall feature, which a plain batten does not.

What colour rendering do hexagon LED lights offer?

Cool white kits have a colour rendering index (CRI) above 80, so paint finishes and materials look true to life under the lights. That matters in detailing bays, inspection areas and showrooms.
