At Simple Lighting we very much appreciate all the support we’ve had from friends and the community here in Birkenhead and beyond while getting our business up and running.
And as such we feel it’s only right that we give something back to say thank you and to help support local community groups in turn.
So, we were delighted to be able to hand over a quantity of Disney lighting and shades to children at Alder Hey hospital earlier this summer. We know how much little ones appreciate the lamps and stringed lights with images of Cinderella and Peter Pan and we were pretty sure they’d help to cheer up a child or two up who was feeling down due to illness.
Why did we donate to Alder Hey?
Well, apart from being local in the sense it’s based in Liverpool, the hospital does an amazing amount of work in caring for more than 270,000 children, young people and their families every single year. From everyday illnesses to specialist and difficult conditions, they never stop looking out for patients.
Alder Hey is a Centre of Excellence for a number of conditions related to cancer, the spine, heart and brain as well as being the UK’s first Centre of Excellence for the complex condition of Childhood Lupus. It’s also a Children’s Major Trauma Centre.
A “thank you” from Alder Hey
We were delighted to receive a letter from Senior Community Fundraiser Irene Axon who wrote to thank us for the donation.
She added: “We have given a number of them [the lights] to the Play Staff here at the hospital to give as gifts to the patients, maybe a birthday gift or just to cheer someone up and we have used the rest to fundraise for the Alder Hey Children’s Charity.
“Alder Hey is one of the busiest children’s hospitals in Europe and is one of the most important centres for peadiatric care in the world. We treat almost one quarter of a million children every year and almost half of the children are under the age of five. Your kindness and support is very much appreciated by all who benefit from your gift.”
The hospital is due to celebrate its centenary next year and in 2015 will move to a new facility next door the current building. Here at Simple Lighting we wish everyone well in their move and fully intend to join in with the centenary celebrations here in Liverpool and beyond.
