What is an MR16 LED bulb?

You may be wondering what MR16 stands for. What is this type of bulb? MR stands for multifaceted reflector. This is a light bulb in a reflector housing format that is used in LED lamps. MR lamps are designated using symbols, and MR16 is purely one of these. The numerals are used to represent the diameter indicating units of eights of an inch.

Can I replace MR16 halogen bulbs with MR16 LED bulbs?

Not only can you do this, but you should! There are a number of benefits associated with making the switch to MR16 LED bulbs instead of using halogen bulbs. Firstly, you will find that LED bulbs consume around 50 per cent less power when compared with the same halogen bulbs. They can also function for much longer as well, lasting for up to 100,000 hours. They tend to have extremely low wattage too. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you make the switch to LED. These bulbs are much more energy-efficient and cost-efficient, yet you are not going to lose any quality.

What is the difference between MR16 bulbs and GU10 bulbs?

When it comes to light bulbs used within the home, there is no denying that MR16 bulbs and GU10 bulbs are the two main spotlights that are used today. The main difference between the two is the voltage that is used. With MR16 bulbs, only 12 volts are needed for them to run, yet with GU10 bulbs, they will run at 240 volts.

Why do my MR16 LED lights flicker?

If you are having problems with your MR16 LED bulbs because they are flickering or they simply are not turning on at all, this is probably because your transformers are not compatible.

Do I need to remove the ballast to use an MR16 LED bulb?

LED technology does not demand the use of ballast for regulating the amount of energy that flows to the lights. Moreover, if you remove the ballast, you are going to lower your use of energy. This can result in a considerable amount of cost-savings, as ballasts will continue to draw more power than needed.

Do all LED lights need a transformer?

A driver, which is a special sort of transformer, is required for all LED bulbs to work correctly. There are drivers built into the bulb with mains voltage LEDs. Should you be replacing existing incandescent 12V bulbs, you are going to have to change the transformer with a special LED driver. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us for more information on this if you are unsure.

Why can’t some LED bulbs be enclosed?

Enclosed fixtures that do not enable proper ventilation can drastically impact the temperature of the LED bulbs. This can shorten the lifespan of the bulb because it causes it to overheat. This is why some bulbs will come with instructions for them not to be used in a fully enclosed porch light fixture or an enclosed ceiling fan. However, if you need something for these fixtures, the best thing to do is give us a call and we will be able to advise on the best bulb for your needs.
